African Dance Workshops
They say Africa is where people first danced! Learn this ancient, creative tradition of story telling and passing down of information. The DayOPTIONAL: The African Dance Day can begin with an introductory assembly about the history of Dance in Africa (max 15 minutes). A summary of all the information we cover can be handed to students in the form of worksheets at the end of the classes. The students will then be split into classes, lasting from 40 min for reception to 1hr plus for years 3-6 and secondary. Each workshop will consist of: - Warm up and exercises
- Traditional moves and what they mean learnt
- Sequence of moves learnt
- Routine (and the story behind it)
- A cool down
OPTIONAL: Finish the day with a school assembly performance, allowing any groups or individuals who would like to perform the routine in front of an audience of the students, teachers and even parents.
